Get Involved
THANK YOU to all of our dedicated volunteers. Last year, 278 volunteers contributed 6714 hours of service. Volunteers help us with a variety of functions including collecting, sorting and distributing food, employment advice, life coaching, computer tutoring, childcare assistance, Supermarket Saturdays, facilitating playgroups & baby play, cleaning, sorting clothes, hosting food drives, and our fabulous board of directors who keep our policies current and our finances strong.
Roman Martinez, a food bank volunteer who was inspired by Obama's call to action, shared these words about his volunteer experience Thursday afternoons at the Food Bank:
“I feel that these two hours are so valuable in helping me develop empathy and trust with others in my own neighborhood. Being able to help people that could possibly be my next door neighbor makes the time at FamilyWorks that much more important and special. “
JOIN US! We rely on the involvement of our community and its members to contribute to making FamilyWorks a meaningful resource for individuals and families. There is a perfect way for you to be involved and to make a difference.
Please consider
1) making a donation of cash, or of gently used children's clothing (we can only accept recently washed and dried items for the safety of our families), toys or books, non-perishable food items or items on our wish list such as bus tickets.
2) volunteering your time in the food bank, helping with childcare, teaching a class, serving on the Board of Directors, being a tutor, delivering food, or contributing your expertise in graphic design, fundraising or other skill.
Volunteers make FamilyWorks WORK! Volunteers are the engine and the heart of the organization. We could not operate without our volunteers. If you have any questions that are not answered here on the website, please call Megan Pahl at (206) 576-6534.
