Parent Child Support Programs
Parent/Child Activities:
In presenting activities and classes for parents and children, our goal at FamilyWorks is to honor parents as the primary, most powerful, and most important teachers of their children and to acknowledge that all caregivers have an impact on a child’s development. We hope to help create opportunities for parents/caregivers to find resources, validation, ideas, and friendships that will connect them to their communities. Through both playgroups and parenting classes, parents and caregivers can learn more about healthy development and contribute to the growth of children who are safe, secure, and school ready. Playing and networking with others, attending classes, and developing the ability to give and receive support contributes to making our community a nurturing place for families and individuals to prosper.
Free Playgroups:
FamilyWorks offers a wide variety of playgroups in our beautiful playroom. Our playroom is filled with toys, art supplies, and books—allowing children to make choices and providing many learning opportunities. Parents and caregivers of young children (birth to 5 years of age) are invited to bring their youngsters and join together to play, read, create, sing, and have snacks. Participation in all playgroups is free and requires no registration—you can drop in. A FamilyWorks staff person or volunteer facilitates our playgroups. The playroom is also available for use by children accompanied by an adult when there is no playgroup/organized activity in session.
As a playgroup participant you can support the mission of FamilyWorks by bringing healthy snack items to share, helping with room cleanup and organization, welcoming new families, sharing your experience with others, and, if you are able, making a donation to FamilyWorks.

Classes/Workshops:
We offer several six week parenting classes each year along with a variety of workshops related to growth and development. We usually offer three six week parenting classes (one for parents of toddlers/preschoolers, one for parents of school age children, and one for parents of teens). We also offer various classes or workshops lasting for 1 1/2 or 2 hours on topics of interest to parents and caregivers. These classes are free to participants (except for a small fee for parenting books for the six week classes with scholarships available for those unable to pay). We usually provide free childcare while parents are attending a class. These classes require that all participants register before attending by calling our office at (206) 694-6727. Although these classes are free we appreciate donations to help defray the cost of paying the facilitator and providing childcare.
