After School Tutoring
FamilyWorks Homework Club
This year, for the first time, FamilyWorks is collaborating with the newly remodeled Wallingford Boys and Girls Club. They are providing the space for our twice a week after-school tutoring program. Our vision is a program that incorporates academic tutoring, goal achievement, and experiential learning whenever possible. We support and facilitate the growth of students in 1st –5th grades by providing a safe and inspirational environment where they can build skills and become confident and secure learners. This program is free and parents are responsible for all transportation (Seattle Public School buses will transport from some local schools).
Our program runs from October through May and relies on a team of volunteer tutors, who give one-on-one homework help every Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 3:30-5:30. This one-on-one attention allows tutors to meet student’s individual needs.
Once a month we will have an enrichment activity where we will invite an organization or individual to present information on a variety of topics. Some of the topics we have explored in the past are: theater, cooking and nutrition, karate, kite making, and gardening.
